Jonathan will discuss his current exhibition on display at the museum Jonathan Becker: Lost Time and will be joined by his wife and longtime collaborator Alexandra Kotur, author, fashion journalist and creative director at Town and Country magazine.

This exhibition is guest curated by Mark Holborn in conjunction with the artist's monograph, forthcoming by Phaidon. Spanning Becker’s illustrious career from his formative period in Paris as a protégé of Brassaï through today, his work features some of the most fascinating and important subjects across contemporary culture. Whether celebrated within the pages of Vanity Fair and Vogue or gracing museum walls, Jonathan Becker remains one of the leading visual storytellers of our time.
About the speakers:
Jonathan Becker has photographed some of the most celebrated figures across modern culture. Becker began his career as a photographer for Interview and Town & Country before serving as a long-time contributor to Vanity Fair and Vogue. He has published several books of photographs, including Bright Young Things: New York & London, with Brooke de Ocampo (2000 and 2003); Studios by the Sea: Artists on Long Island’s East End, with Bob Colacello (2002); and Jonathan Becker: 30 Years at Vanity Fair (2012). His monograph, Jonathan Becker: Lost Time, edited by Mark Holborn, will be released by Phaidon in October 2024.
Alexandra Kotur was born and raised in New York City, attended the Chapin School followed by a semester at Columbia University and then went on to Middlebury College where she graduated with a BA in 1992. She then lived in London for four years working for Conde Nast UK, and continued with the company in New York at Vogue magazine for sixteen years as the Special Projects Editor and then Style Director. She then became Town & Country magazine’s Creative Director where she worked until until 2012. Ms. Kotur authored, Carolina Herrera: Portrait of a Style Icon as well as, The World in Vogue: People, Parties, Places. She and Jonathan Becker along with their two children live in Bedford, NY, on Mianus River Road.
Michelle Yun Mapplethorpe is Executive Director of the Katonah Museum of Art. She was formerly Vice President for Global Artistic Programs and Director of the Asia Society Museum, and has served in curatorial roles at Asia Society, Hunter College Art Galleries, and MoMA, among other institutions. Yun Mapplethorpe is a widely published author and frequent lecturer on modern and contemporary art. She serves as an affiliate member of the ArtsWestchester Board of Directors and as advisory board member of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum in addition to her association with many other arts organizations.
