This is where
YOU the Fern Hill Community comes in. We are partnering with the
Community Center of Northern Westchester for a
Spread the Love Challenge! Fern Hill Project members can access a dedicated page
here to donate whatever amount you are comfortable giving between now and April 1st.
100% of your donation will go directly to the Community Center to purchase either diaper and baby supplies or women’s hygiene products for neighbors in need. And, an anonymous donor in our community has generously offered to
MATCH all donations made up to $10,000 during the Fern Hill Project Spread the Love Challenge.
For those not familiar, the Community Center of Northern Westchester is led by Clare Murray and is supported by hundreds of donors, volunteers and 43 civic, educational and religious organizations to provide food, clothing, programs, and other resources for over 10,000 neighbors in need in our community, 3,466 of whom are children.
Last December, when the Community Center put out a call on social media that they were in need of diaper supplies, Casey Lynam, a local mom and Fern Hill Member took notice. She sent an email out to a group of mom friends to see if they’d be willing to donate a small amount of money each month to purchase diapers to deliver to the Community Center. I received Casey’s email and loved the idea of pooling together resources in our community to help fill the diaper need gap but thought we could take it even a step further.
This led to conversations with Clare and her team at the Community Center about how yes, receiving donations in the form of supplies is wonderful but oftentimes those deliveries come in waves and can’t meet the ongoing needs of the community. Neighbors in need are constantly coming in looking not just for diapers but feminine hygiene products that again aren’t covered by SNAP. The Community Center is able to purchase these desperately needed items at bulk rates and therefore what would really have the greatest impact is ongoing funding to make those purchases.
